In an effort to get some traffic on this forum, how about posting some pictures of your Gators? Highlights of different modifications and accessories would be great. Let's get some discussion going.:Ysnd:

Here is my new 825i. Has just about every option but the cab and the super high seats (I would have them if they were yellow) I added the rear protection package and the ops soft roof as seen in the last pic.

Heres our 2008 Gator XUV 620i. Bought new and has about 300hrs now. Deluxe cab, front/rear lights, heavy susp. Front JD V-Plow for it that works great, pwr dump, bedliner (originally had spray in liner but kept denting the bed up so bought the plastic liner), went through 2 differentials in 150hrs each, dont know why but kept binding the front wheels up and making gear grinding sounds.

Our other gator is a 1999 Gator 6x4 has anywhere from 900-1200hrs on it(new hr meter just installed), runs great, pwr dump, just made a brushguard kinda like JD's only it cost me about $25 instead if like $250!!!!!!!!!!!! Made a 2" reciever for the rear, bedliner, all the fenders are broke at bolt holes lol but I made custom rear fenders that are bulletproof!!!! Aluminum with Rumber(super hard ruber) skin. Been wrecked once into huge ass oak tree and totaled the front left suspension(not by me).

Might look at a new 6x4 with deluxe cab but debating the 825i..... What do you all think???
The new TH 6x4 gas or the 825i Gas with Deluxe cabs??? Both are comparable in capacities (i think) but need something for the trails, hauling wood, trailers, ect. WORKHORSE!!

I traded my 2003 4x2 Gator with 260 hrs on a 2007 620i XUV.
I use it for waterfowl hunting when close to home and mowing the pasture with the Swisher pull behind mower. The seat covers are my Army duffle bags. They fit well and keep the seats like new.

Took some of the special edition goodies from the parts section. :BG: Also got carbon fiber box stickers. Final touch would have been the black carbon fiber hood but they wanted crazy cash for it. :Wlys:

About 25 bucks for the steering wheel cover? I have to say it again-your Gator is sweet. My old 620i was the same color as yours and I hated it. What you have done with the wheels and decals really puts some glimmer in the olive green. I like it! Plus it smells like a school bus, love that!

Thanks man! :Chers:

It was not my favorite color at first either. I bought it from a friend who was going to use it to plow sidewalks for his landscaping company. He never followed thru and it really just sat out back with his trucks for 3 seasons. This is what 3 seasons did to the hood. 2 coats of wax brought the shine right back to showroom.

Here is my '08 620i.

I use it for short trips around the farm and between fields rather than firing up my F-350.

It has the hard top, soft cab, roll-on bedliner in the box and floorboards. I added led lights to supplement the deluxe lights for better visibility at night. I also added 1" lift to the front end and rails on the bed.

Thanks guys! They are off so passengers can just climb in the back using the tire for a step...Yeah it slings mud everywhere......but I really don't beat it. I love it. I like to crawl around and enjoy the sights and get to places that the quads say I can't get to. I'm getting used to hearing, "we've never seen a side-by-side make it through that".

I'll get some more up soon....

Happy trails!

Some very nice looking machines. I am hoping as the year progresses that there will be more after market parts for the 825I. I am sure as individuals upgrade packages we may start to see some used parts for sale here on the forum. I am looking for extra wheels/tires for spares in the trailer.

I have a jeep overhead speaker set up with a marine JVC head unit under the dash. It works great but I'm considering lookin into the overhead stereo/speaker enclosure from Deere. We do a lot of deep water fording and the stereo gets splashed often. I'm worried that when it gets submerged, it will let the smoke out of the wires. :) I also plan on mounting a small marine CB radio overhead too.. I know they are not supposed to be used inland but, I doubt that law is enforced often. They are water resistant and more powerful. We are also thinkin of a new head unit that has an iPod input too... I'll have to keep ya posted.

Just curious, with the marine radio in the gator who will you be able to communicate with ? I am trying to decide now what kind of communications equipment I want to put in the Gator. Is there a preference that people who use their Gator's off road prefer? A CB (citizens band radio) FRS (family radio service) GMRS (general mobile radio service) a marine radio as mentioned by Jimmy ? Something I missed ? Thanks for the input.

Cell phone if you really want any distance out of it. lol

I know it's hard to believe but there are still quite a few places that do not have cell coverage. Even in some of the most congested & most populated states in the country like New Jersey, there are stretches of Route 539 thru the pine barrens that have no cell service and in Wharton State Forest where I go 4 wheeling with my jeep there is no service once you get into the forest. Not to mention places like outside the town of Moab Utah on the trails and one of my favorite is a dog leg off I-80 in Colorado down to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. When you get off I-80 there is a sign warning motorists to gas up that there are no services for the next 65 miles and they are right, there are NO services for the next 65 miles, nothing at all. One time while running down thru there I stopped to help someone at an accident and I was glad that I had, I mean someone had a CB Radio that was tuned up over the legal 5 watts. All we did is broadcast a few times our location and what was needed, eventually help arrived. Yes we had also sent someone to go get help.

I grew up, ok I have not grown up, but got older in the NY/NJ area. When I went out west the first time I was amazed at the open space and there are not gas stations, drug dealers & McDonald's every 1/4 mile on a corner.

So my question remains ......... is there a preference or trend among people who use their UTV's off road to gravitate towards a particular radio band?

Not so hard to believe. At the farm I sometimes have to walk around and hold the phone just right to get even one bar of signal. When I works I can get a hold of anyone though. We used CB's for years and then most everyone migrated away from them unless they were in a hunting club. Range was limited and not everyone had a modified unit. I still have one in my truck but can't remember the last time I even turned it on. Maybe the last traffic jam I was in on I-95 to see what was going on.

Anyway, I'm no help. lol

I'd recommend CB as its most common. We travel to several ATV parks, its nice to have a bunch of side by sides with cb radios talking jive and tooling throught the trails. Makes for a lot of fun. I looked around, and the Marine is VHF FM, as the CB is UHF AM. Basicly everyone is OK with spending $50 bucks on a CB. The Marine radios are in the $300 range... A $100 two way radio from Gander would work too, but its another thing to drop in the mud....oops! I bought a CB.... I'll pust some pics after its installed.

CaptDan,

I just had a local seemstress make those covers for me. She found some yellow vinyl material that wouldn't soak the water up and slapped them together. I couldn't find anyone that made them but they have to be coming soon. I would suggest finding someone local to do it for you.

Hey guys! I'm a St. John Ambulance volunteer out of Port Moody, British Columbia.

I've recently taken over vehicle operations and one of our fine emergency vehicles is a older model John Deere Gator TH 6x4 Gas. It needs quite a bit of work, but it only has 30 hours on the engine, and we have an old Femco MedBed for patient transport

The only modifications I've made so far is the installation of some emergency lights.

On my current wish list is
-Air Horn/Siren
-Roll Over Protection System w/Cab
-Light bar
-Street legal kit (turn signals)
-Bushbar
-Spray on bedliner (maybe the fenders too)
-VFH radio/antenna (we have a dedicated VHF radio frequency)
-Add on fire extinguisher
-Winch/recovery tools
-Mirrors

Here are a couple of pictures. It's in pretty rough shape right now (it's been sitting outside uncared for, for 3 years)

499500497498

If you guys have an suggestions, I'd love to hear them. We get a small grant from the British Columbia Gaming Fund, and I may be able to use some of it on upgrades.

Thanks!

I just received word that another 2012 Gator 825i with a FireLite FDH Fire / Rescue bed insert went into service on Friday 01/20/2012. This new unit is at the Goshen Twp. Fire & EMS Department in Goshen Township, Clermont County, Ohio. I should have pictures later this week.

Nice looking machine, looks like you did a super job painting, like the decals. Everytime I go out to ride the Gator my K9 has to jump in the back. Several days ago I lost site of Czar for a few minutes, found him in the garage where he had jumped up into the bed, "come on daddy let's boogie!

I hear that, my dogs do the same thing. I had no idea they would enjoy the gator as much as I do! It works out nicely because when I buy new accessories for the gator I just tell the wife how it will improve the gator for the dogs......still trying to figure out how to convince her that the dogs need a turbo though.

Mikesr53....that is one cool rig you've got there!!!....I've never seen a snowblower mounted on a new 855D and yours surely looks like a slick unit...very nice looking Gator in itself too...those Camo Gators with the Deluxe Cabs look sooo clean looking...just a really well made and fitted set-up...

How far do you throw snow???...like a half mile or so???....hehehehe....that unit looks like it can handle whatever you plow (or I should say..."dive"..) into...and, what's up with "Gator Lite" behind the big one???...that's looks like a clean machine too...

Larry,

Thanks for the compliment! Haven't had a chance to blow snow yet (only had a few inches the other day), but it sounds real powerful. The blower is first class quality in mechanical areas, but I'm a little disappointed with the coating. Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time touching it up over the years.

The "Little One" (2000 2X4) in the back belongs to the wife.... best birthday present I every bought her! Even though she always let me use her Gator, so far I only let her sit in mine!

Yeah...you better keep her out of yours or she'll be wanting to trade you even up...I know how them women-folk brains work...hahaha...

So, you are a Maryland'r too???...what area are you from???...2255Puller on here is from MD too...I'm from the Upper Eastern Shore....near Chestertown...directly between Baltimore and Dover DE on the map...right on the Bay, the Sassafras River, and the Chester River...I'm right between them all in the middle of farmland...

Check out 2255 Puller's rig on here too...he's built a Ground Hog Hole Demolition Device on the back of his 825i that fills up the holes with gas fumes and then he blows them up!!!....I'm gonna have to go see that in action one of these days in person...he's gonna post up a video when he gets it right...

Again...welcome, and you do have a seriously sweet looking Gator...very clean looking with that Deluxe Cab...you can see pics of mine under the Showroom section in a thread titled "Gator Collection"...a few pics there and in my Intro under that section as "Newbie from MD"...there's a bunch of great people on this Forum, and I'm sure you'll have a good time here...I know I do!!!

Thanks for the kind words. I am about 12 miles north of Baltimore in Baltimore County. I have about a 600' driveway and another 400' foot circle to clear the snow off of. I been using a 1999 Tahoe with a Western plow and a 36 hp new holland 4wd tractor with a rear mounted blower. The Tahoe gets stuck continuously and the rear mounted blower with no cab is a killer. So I decided to get out of the cold with the 855 and deluxe cab with heater. I can't wait to try it out, but if it doesn't snow until next year I'll be happy. I found your pics. Nice machine and sweet looking kid! I'll post more pics when I do some mod's'.

Guys, these are some nice looking pictures, Tex great wheels your displaying there! Now I need you to install some body armor around the girl, she want proteciton!

As far as the Gator with the blower, holy cow that is sweet! Nothing is impossiable! I do hate snow and never ask for it, but for your sake I do hope you get at least one good storm so you can have fun sipping coffess, staying warm and moving snow like no man can!

I know what you meen about blowing snow with no cab or heat. Several years ago I purchased a new John Deere tractor for our farm, Went all out and ordered a super duper John Deere blower, plows, tillers ect, no I didn't purchase the heated cab as it was expensive! After blowing out from a major north easter I called Mr. Hall from Hall's John Deere up and told him to get her on order NOW! Removing snow now is more of a game then anything.

Good luck and again great machines you have.

Very nice Skidrowe....mine looked exactly like that when I bought it....now it has morphed into an enclosed cab fun machine with lots of goodies added to it...you can see mine listed under "Gator Collection" in the Showroom section...

I recently added a back-up camera, some Kolpin Fog Lights in the bumper, a stereo, and a set of the Kolpin Gear Grips...I was gonna take some pics last weekend, but my Mother in Law passed away, so life here at my place was screwed up all last week...I'll take some new ones here in the next few days...

Cool ride...post up more pics whenever you feel like it...we like pics here...

Thanx for the pics....very cool!!!!....I wish the steering wheel on the 825's and 855's were situated like the one in these pics...looks like it is sooo much more comfortable to drive than the way the one in my 825 sits kinda flat and low....I'm still trying to figure out how to raise mine up a couple inches....I was looking at it yesterday, and when it comes out of the dash ion the front end compartment, it makes a hard right angle using a U joint making extending it there kinda hard to do....I'm going to look at it more today and see what I can do...

Great shots!!!...thanx for posting the pics....be sure to let uis know how much you like it when you get it home...I think yours will be the first 550 on the Forum!!!

How good is the factory power steering ??

I haven't drove a gator without it so I don't have anything to compare too. It's smooth. When I first got the gator the power steering made a mechanical ticking noise when you turned it to the left. JD replaced the whole unit right away. It still worked good, just had that ticking.

the Radios I have in my Gator is a CB and a Ham radio , the CB I used to communicate between vehicals and the Ham radio I use for emergency communication has far more power then a CB don't know why you thought it was a marine radio that is a completely different band 2 meter band is the most popular for local communication and has the function to reach repeaters if needed, the marine band is prohibited for use on land, and there is a stiff fine if the fcc happens to locate you using it. hope this info helps
