So I decided to take a leisurely jaunt tonight to check out the creek flooding and while going down the hill to look at the creek the lights, dash and all went out and it croaked. Key was totally dead-nothing. And of course I was at the furthest most back part of my property. So after hours of screwing around trying to drag it out with my Grizzly to no avail I decided to get my JD 3120 compact out. Needless to say it has been raining cats and dogs and the woods is no place to be with something that heavy right now. Well after several beers and just being pissed off we got it back to the house finally. I can't figure it out, not a stick or anything pulled any wires out. The dealer will be getting a call 1st of the week. Probably a stupid fusible link or a fuse. Not happy spending 5 hours in 40 degree weather and rain but I couldn't leave my babies in the woods all night. I forgot to mention I buried the tractor in the mud and had to dig myself out with the loader and backhoe. Did I mention I was pissed? Boy am I pissed! Makes no sense and i'm sure everybody here will want to know what happened and I will keep everybody posted. This happen to anyone else?:cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cu ss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss :

Man that sucks!!! I remember once I was going literally staight up a mountain with our 6x4 and I managed to wedge it in between a bunch of trees and had to walk a mile and a half back to our house to get our other gator and chainsaws and had to spend a few hours logging lol. It worked but man it sucked. Glad I had a buddy with me or I wouldve had to walk back and get the other gator.

Ok here is the update, turns out it was a fuse that was blown. When they went to start it the starter made a growling noise so they replaced it. I would have checked the fuses further but you know what its under warranty so let them deal with it. The starter acted up on me once before so i'm glad they replaced it.

Mine is a 825, I want to know why it blew. It makes no sense, they said there was moisture in the wiring harness? How did it get there? Glad I don't have to deal with the starter though. You just don't really know how screwed you are when one of these heavy bastards won't run when you are miles from home. Quad won't get them out, you need another Gator or a tractor! In a perfect world you won't have to deal with it. Also, a 3K winch is a joke for one of these. I have a 3K Warn on my 700 Grizz (same for Gator) and it would barely budge pulling it up a slight incline. That pisses me off that JD expects one of those winches to pull a Gator out. Could you imagine it being stuck in the mud and hoping that little winch will get it out? These things are like Jeeps, just about as heavy too. I'm done bitching for now I guess, still pissed about the fuse and starter but I should have looked into the fuse deal more. I was upset and thought it was JD's problem-not mine.

Did the dealer tell you which fuse and where it was at? Any idea on what caused it to blow? Glad to hear that you got it fixed!

It was a 15 amp fuse under the dash. Said condensation in the wiring harness? I doubt it but I carry spares now and a flashlight!

Under the dash by your left foot or under the dash/tool tray? as there are two banks of fuses. I agree, "moisture in the wiring harness" translates to "we don't know what happened". Glad it's fixed.

Hi Dieselsmith, new to the forum. Do you think the winch would have worked better if your Gator was running ( more power- amps going to the winch motor) or was it just underpowered for the size/ weight and environment you were in.

It was the winch on my Grizzly quad that wouldn't pull it. I think a 3K winch is way underpowered for a machine this size, I have the same 3K Warn Deere tries to sell you for the XUV on my quad and it did not get the job done. I cant imagine how worthless it would be if you were buried in the mud. And for m38inmaine, it was the very first 15 amp right under the dash. The one closest to the front end. Not the 4 fuse block down by where your left leg would be if you were sitting in it. It is the key switch circuit.

i have the winch that deere supplied the 3k and it works just fine as long as your using a block so that way you have more leverage and pulling from 2 points not just one

Thats fine but a machine this size should have a bigger winch-plain and simple. It should be able to pull itself out of a mudhole in a straight line pull, not having to bank on a snatch block.
