Rear end problems with electric Gator.

I have a 1999 electric Gator that has damaged rear end gears. A new rear end from JD is $3,000 and the gear parts are $800. Are there other rear ends that will work? Are there aftermarket suppliers of the gears? Looking for a cheaper alternative.

I've got a 2001 and I've noticed there appears no way to drain and refill or even check lube level in case. Unless I'm missing something, pretty dumb design by Deere. Does anyone have a newer model and is the situation the same?
