My wife and myself ( along with our dog Mochi ) went to Charleston Lake in Ontario Canada for a week. Just got back this afternoon. Went up earlier this year to give our friend Ken a hand getting camp ready before northern pike season opens next saturday.

Got up to camp last saturday and got the '24 pontoon set up. Right in time for rain on monday

Luckily it didn't rain the entire time and we were able to get some fishing in. Since pike, bass and lake trout aren't open yet, it was just going for crappies and other panfish. Of course the time I remember to take my camera out on the boat, this was the only "in season" fish we caught ( no pics of out of season fish since the Ontario fish rule book clearly states out of season fish are to be returned to the water as quickly as possible without taking time for pictures or weighing )

Mochi was the official "fish look out"

We saw turtles ( center of pic above rock at waterline)

While we were fishing by the island with the two turtles on it, a beaver decided we were too close and kept smacking his tail against the water. He did it a total of 12 times over 5 or minutes to let us know he was pissed off.

I got to sample a few different beers too. In addition to the LaBatts Blue we got at the DutyFree, I got some Tankhouse Ale, Alexander Keith Dark Ale and some Neustadt Dark Ale. I liked the AK Dark Ale best

Sometimes Mochi ( greater swiss mountain dog @ 157 lbs ) got a little bored and tried to act even more human

One night my wife is snacking on cheese curls and drops one on the floor. Mochi is on it fast as lightning. Next thing he's begging for cheese curls. Sorry the picture isn't the best but I was LMAO

My wife also got a few really nice sunrise pics

Oh yeah, helping to camp ready. We picked up sticks. LOTS of sticks from around 17 cottages. Probably 10 pick up truck loads.

I hate sticks right about now

I camp just west of there all the time. A buddy of mine owns a bunch of cottages on Kennebec lake. The Kawarthas are great and I am surprised you only pulled out one pan fish. Oh well, better luck next time!

On the way up I beeped at about 10:15 am and at 8:00 am the following saturday on the way home.

That 157 lb dog thinks he's a lap dog sometimes

We got a lot more fish than that. For some reason the bass were killing my crappie jigs. I got a 3 lb pike on my ultra light ( 4lb mono --NO steel leader ). That was exciting.

We go back up in June. Both pike and lake trout will be open then.

Prices are extremely reasonable and if you don't have a boat or motor, Ken ( the owner ) rents to his guests for a good price too.

If you checkout the website, you can see pics of the boat he rents.

You're welcome. You have all the comforts of home except for a shower IN the cabin. There is a shower house with seperate sides for men & women which has individual shower stalls. Running hot & cold water, flush toilet in the baseroom ( got to love that "silver handle" ), refrig and electric stove plus electric heat.

Just bring your clothes and linens for the beds

Nice Jeff. Thanks for sharing. I do have a couple questions though. Who's gold fish tank did you catch that fish from?:BG: Do you get to go back when Pike season is open?

My Buddy's place is Sprigwood Cottages and can be found here: http://springwoodcottages.ca/index.php. Glad you had fun. I hope we can cross paths in that area one day. Maybe hit up a fishing trip?

That place looked pretty good until I came across this Sorry no Pets Policy No Exceptions

Since my wife and I vacation with our dog, it looks like they won't get any of my money.

I spoke to him about the no pets policy and he said it's only for long weekends and stuff like that. He has seen too many dogs freak out when there are a lot of people around and he has two dogs on the site as well. Basically if your dog is good around strange people and other dogs he doesn't mind at all. I will be heading up there at least one weekend this summer as the fishing is FANTASTIC.
