I bought an inch and quarter 10' black schedule 40 pipe as it was the same outside diameter as the front protection bars. Well, not exactly but close. Looking back, I wish I had used 2 inch pipe. Looks kind of wimpy to me now. I may cut the 1 1/4 pipe off eventually and put a piece of 2 inch in its place later.

I had some 1/4" plate to make the brackets out of. When I open the bed the bumper just barely touches the hitch and is about 1/4" from touching the rear tires.

I also had some Herculiner left over from doing the bed so I coated the bumper with it. Won't have to worry about rust or scratches.

The picture doesn't show it but, the bumper extends about 3/4" beyond the tailgate so I shouldn't back into the tailgate which was what I was trying to protect.

I can't decide if I wanted a rear bumper or not, I thought the factory one with what I would call the lower step pockets would be just what I needed to get things out of the back of the bed, well I just thought it would be nice to step up on, it's so high I couldn't even get my foot up to it.

didnt like the rear protection kit deere offered. I use the hitch often to pull things and the drop woould be in the way of wagon tongues, and lagoon fill pipe. also you cant take off the bed sides and be completlely flat box. the fender tubes come up to far. To put a pallet on there or something
