View Full Version : A little from the fun department - 3D Gator - illuminated, maybe :-)

I run a prototype business and deal with all types of files, but had never tried files from scanned objects. A guy with a scanner offered I could bring him something I'd like scanned, and he would do it for a fair price. I thought why not combine it with a little fun and scan the keyring I bought off of eBay:

I scaled the file, etc. and did an injection mold out of brass:

And casted a couple in different colors (they're around 6 inches long):

The material I used are transparent, so it would actually be possible to add some LEDs to illuminate it (hard to get a proper picture, but you get the idea):

Not sure I'll go further with it, though, as it'll be quite some work to do the housing, fit the LEDs, etc.

Just thought I would share :hde:

I might do some, but getting the light distributed properly to the whole thing, is teasing me. As purplewg, I'd prefer the lighter colored one, but the LEDs shines right through it, instead of illuminate it, where the other do better, so...... Need more thinking and testing :-)

Thanks for the kind words, guys.
