As many of you guys might have noticed, the shocks on Gators are pretty noisy, when driving in bumpy terrain. It sounds like air are sucked in and pressed out of them. Just curious to know why JD picked a shock type that noisy? Any advantages using those vs. other types?
As said, just curious.

I'm betting cost was the most important factor in using them...to fix that, they will sell you an upgrade for some nice Fox Shocks for well over a grand.....for what I am using my Gator for, I would never reap the benefits of having really expensive shocks on mine...I'm sure high tech Fox Shocks would be nice and quiet, but I'll just turn my stereo up a little more if my factory shocks start to bother me...

the fox shocks make noise due to the design they are a internal by pass shock so they have best described as clickers so when the oil passes by it gives a click sound that is how they work as for noise it is what it is on the stock ones it could be coil bind could be the bolts don't fit the best due to the rubber eye's on them

Difficult to believe one set of shocks would cost over 1K! This past year I installed top of the line Koni adjustable shocks on my Impala SS, these shocks made such a positive difference yet only cost about $400.00. Why would Fox shocks cost this much?

well fox shoxs are for one rebuildible and very adjustible such as you can change out the coild for diferent weights and the interals are also adjustible you can change compresion and rebound in the amount of shims stacks are put in the body of the shock and even more adjustments off of the knob on the resivoir itself and 1000k thats nothing just ordered new shocks for our new class 1 car just 1 of the shocks was 1200.00 bucks and i needed two in that size and style. here is a link to an exploded veiw of a fox bypass shock this is whey they cost $$$$ http://www.foxracingshox.com/dl/offroad/foxrs-or-bypass-ex.pdf

Gator Racer....do you think those Fox Shocks are overkill for a regular ole Gator doing normal field and trail use???....Just crious to know what your opinion is on them...I see why they cost so much, but are they worth that much money for someone like me who uses my 825i for mostly play, but nothing extreme???
Thanx for your insight on this...

if you are just doing stuff around the house i see no issues with what comes from the factory and when those wear out (it will take a lot) you can buy new ones.
just remember it is your rear end in the seat and you have to what feels right for you. as for me and my app the stock shocks would start melting the internals after about 100miles in the desert but i have stock shocks as spares in case something did happen
