Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to disconnect the safety switch that will not allow the Gator to Start while in gear? I would like to be able to start my Gator without putting it into Neutral.

Why would you want to start it in gear:Cnfsd: That sounds dangerous. :OhNoes:

I am also curious as to why you would want to do that? When I was a young man during the early 50s, I saw a friend of mine lean into his car and start it! He swore he put the car in neutral, he was wrong. Car started, he about lost his arm and the car bolted forward and exited the back of the garage. Lesson learnt.
I can see some real danger with this quest. Please rethink this one out.:Nnd:

That is what I am thinking. When the Gator is in gear, it doesnt go anywhere as long as you dont push the gas, and I typically leave the parking brake on when I get off anyway. I was mainly thinking about when I stop to say Talk to someone and cut the engine off so you can hear better, and then crank it up when you are ready to leave, it would be nice to not have to shift into Neutral, and then back into drive. I also think it may cut down on soome of the wear in the shift cable over time. Anybody done this successfully, I do not want to loose my 4WD???

Would be nice. Most of the side x sides have this feature.

USUALLY, the Gator won't go anywhere, but that one time it's cold and you left it in gear but without the parking brake on, Murphy says it will start right up and jump at you when you're not ready. Personally, the small bother of it not starting and me shifting into neutral to start it is worth the safety factor. Most other vehicles that allow you to start in gear (at least that I've seen) require you to be pushing the brake pedal to start. I would prefer that to the Deere system, but I think having NO safety is asking for trouble down the road.
Just my 2 cents...

I will say it again; I am NOT AT ALL concearned with the safety factor of this machine. The only time I would do this, is if I were to stop and need to shut off the engine while sitting on the machine. I do not need any other safety lectures, so if you know how to do this, I will be glad to hear from you. Thanks,

I do NOT see any concerns as far as safety! I have a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 with 7000 miles. It will start in gear, I have yet injured my self or anyone else as far as that is concerned. I agree I wish it would start in gear.

all im going to say is if a person cannt figure out how to bypass a safety switch it was built to protect them, grab the multi meter and get to work but if the switch is bypassed and brought in for service work and the dealer catches it im sure you would get charged to undo the bypass

I will cross that bridge when I get to it. I f I know how to bypass it, I can probably switch it back if I need to make a run to the dealer.
