I was surprised to see this video on the forum. This is my wife taking a cruise around the driveway was taken last year. I had just bought the Gator. Since then I have had constant problems with the Predator motor (Harbor Freight) that the previous owner had installed. I just bought a used FE290D Kawasaki engine to install in the Gator. This is the type and size of motor that was originally in the machine. Hopefully the past owner didn't mess up too much of the original wiring. I have bought the repair/operator's manuals so hopefully I'll get it figured out if not I'll be on here looking for information. Looking forward to following the posts on this forum.

I got a ways to go. Motor will not be here until next week sometime. I did make a little progress today the brakes where not working. Did a little reading and found that they are easy to adjust.
I bought the machine for my wife. We have a small farm and raise horses and mini donkeys. She will use it primarily for cleaning stalls hauling hay bales grain etc. Once I get it running correctly I think it will be a good farm tool.

Hi Ron,
I just sold my old 6x4 gator to a couple that will use it for the same chores as you mentioned. They wore out theirs after years of hard work, I hope it treats them as well as it has treated us and I also hope our new 825 will be as dependable. I'm sure your AMT will do the job just fine and welcome to the site.

Thanks Jake for the welcome,
I think your right it will be handy (gator) once I get it rehabbed. I'm not sure if this is the area of the forum to ask for parts. I'm looking for the knob that goes on the parking brake lever. It is a slitted knob not threaded. I'm not even sure what that type of mount is called. I have looked on line under knobs unable to locate. Do you have any ideas? If worse comes to worse I'll just make one

Hi Ron,
I went on John Deere parts on-line and looked up your machine. The part # for that knob is W40510. They show it at $1.88 Canadian so it will be cheaper for you.

Hi Ron welcome as for parts if you don't want new for some of your items try eBay.the dealer will carry parts for a long time for that machine. I have a 1970's John Deere swather and I can still buy parts for that machine from the dealer.

Glad to help Ron, and I'm glad you got the part coming. As Destiny Creek mentioned, you would be surprised at what you can still buy for parts on the older units.
Cheers!

I got the motor installed in the Gator. Very pleased runs well. A bit cold blooded on starting likes to be choked and wants to be warmed up before moving. Trying to order some tailgate latches and decals on line, having a bit of an issue communicating with the vender. Hope to get that worked out Monday. Spent the day pounding the dents out of the tail gate. Got it primed and 1st coat of green on one side.

Very pleased with the seller. Have bought from him before. All things are as described. I think he might go to auctions and buy the gators and then part them out to sell.

Some progress pictures on the center console rehab. It was pretty torn up so I used some Purple Heart wood for backing. Then used Marine Tex as a filler

Working on tailgate now. It was pretty beat up. Will not be perfect but will be better when I'm done. I guess it really doesn't matter considering it will mostly be used to haul horse manure. lol

I talked with the vender today and worked out the communication issue. I have the tailgate latches on the way along with a few decals. I'm sure tempted to order the plastic fenders that go in front of the rear tires, but they are a little spendy might have to make some.

Thanks Dane. I usually don't get involved in forums other then read the comments. So I'm not familiar with the do's and don'ts. I got to thinking after my post that maybe I was over posting. What I have found is that the people on this forum are extremely helpful and very friendly. If I do something on here that is not within bounds they will gently let me know.

My Brother calls it the poop mobile. Since it will mostly be used to clean stalls. :jm:
