How can you identify the regular poly from the no scratch poly windshields when they are new...at the dealer? I'm getting the no scratch...and I want to make sure that's what it is before 2 months are passed and it's scratch to the dickens.

I do not know exactly how to tell, but just wanted to comment.

I originally had the no-scratch poly windshield and just to let you know, it WILL get scratched. Where i use my Gator at the most is the Texas Hill Country. Lots of dust. Lots of cedar and juniper trees. Results are a very scratched up no-scratch poly windshield. Even got a scratch on the inside from a gun barrel.

Now I got a glass windshield. Personal opinion - invest a little more money and get the glass windshield instead of the no-scratch poly windshield.

I have the no scratch poly on my 550. It is split about 1/4 the way up and the top portion pivots open for ventilation. I have a cheaper no scratch plexiglas windshield on my golf cart and I'm still using it after 6 years. Yes, the plastic will scratch. How bad it scratches and how it looks will depend a lot on how you take care of it. If you treat it with kit gloves I think you will be happy with it for years. That said, nothing beats glass for scratch resistance. I would cast another vote for glass if you will be using your Gator at night or whenever frost or fogging of the windshield may be a problem. After dark this time of year I can only go 1/4 mile before stopping and getting out a soft rag to carefully wipe the dew/fog off my no-scratch poly. With glass you'd have a windshield wiper on one side working for you and you can go crazy with a rag on the inside if needed.

I don't know myself but will be watching the responses to see if you find out. I didn't know much about the windshields when I bought my 825i last December and mine has a poly windshield that came on it. But my dealer (a small dealer) couldn't tell me which it was. Will be glad when I can afford to buy a glass one.

This (http://www.dowdatractor.com/OemParts#) company has a better parts lookup than the John Deere parts website which does not seem to have some of the Gator models. Under model click the pull down menu and go all the way to the bottom and select "utility vehicle", then you will see our types of Gators. Then you can see the diagrams/drawings for everything, including the various windscreen options. You have to be a bit patient since they are scattered through the list. The plain windscreen is way at the bottom; "windscreen XXXX - Occupant Protection System" while the scratch resistant is called "OPS full no scratch..."

BM23742 - OPS Full No Scratch Windshield, Attachment

BM22429 - Windshield Kit (Folding) ( - XXXXXX) - REPLACED BY BM23741 OR BM23742

AM138672 Windshield Kit (Folding) (XXXXXX - )

These numbers come from the JD Parts Catalog

Maybe that will help some. Except for the full OPS Cab System by JD I have not seen or found a full glass rear window by JD. There are aftermarket glass rear windows that you can purchase though. There's a thread somewhere on these forums with links to several other cab manufacturers - you can do a search on these forums and find that thread and look at all the more popular cab systems.
