Hi guys, looking to buy a side by side and my question is simple.... How the RSX is doing on gas on the trail. Also does somebody had the chance to ride with other side by side and how your RSX did compare to the RZR, wild cat or Commander
Thanks for your Help

I don't have an RSX, I have an 825i. That said, I did some careful measuring and mine beats the advertised .7 gallons per hour by a little bit, telling me that their numbers can probably be trusted. I expect that the specs found in the sticky at the top of the RSX forum here, OR the John Deere material will give you the gallons per hour figure and you can probably trust it.
Also, to your question about the Polaris vs. the JD. It seems that the Polaris products are lighter, which results in better performance. For ME, however, lighter also at least POSSIBLY equates to less ruggedness. My Gator gives me all the performance I need and THEN SOME, so the reduced weight/additional performance of the Polaris is not that attractive me. We all are different, so you'll have to make your own decision between the two.
The RSX is designed to be more of a performance model than is the XUV, so my information about how the XUV 825i compares to the Polaris Ranger, may not at all apply to your RSX vs. Polaris comparison.
Best of luck with your decision and let us know what you come up with. Check out the specifications section in the sticky and do some comparison.
Have fun with your choice. Do your research and think it through. Don't let some slick sales guy make this decision for you. Do your own due dilligence.

I'll put this in a different post: http://www.johndeeregatorforum.com/forum/showthread.php?12305-RSX-850i-XUV-s-Specifications-and-Cross-Refrence-Info
I did not see a fuel consumption spec in this write up. I would go to Deere.com and they will tell you. I did notice that the RSX is 1360 pounds which is CONSIDERABLY lighter than my XUV which is about 1600. It has 57HP, so the horsepower to weight ratio should be quite good. Less weight, generally speaking, equates to better fuel economy in any vehicle.
Here is the link to the page where you can download the RSX brochure. It should have fuel consumption numbers:
http://www.deere.com/wps/dcom/en_US/industry/residential/learn_more/gator_online_brochures/gator_online_brochures.page?
Again, good luck with your decision.

I looked over the brochure pretty closely and could not find the fuel consumption spec. I'm pretty sure that they show it in the XUV brochure, but maybe I got it from the operator manual after purchase. I don't remember for sure.
Somebody will probably be along soon to give you fuel consumption information.

You should check out the Can-Am Maverick. I was looking at trading in for an rsx but I think there is no comparison between the two.

I think my RSX does pretty well on fuel. But it all depends on how much your into the throttle and what your doing.
As for the can am maveric, it is strictly sport. also the darn thing costs nearly 17 grand lol. I guess it all depends on what your need is really. I have had a yamaha rhino which I thought was an excellent machine as well.

The RZR, Wildcat, and Maverick are Pure Sport. They are not really comparable to a commander or ranger or rsx. The RSX is a sporty Utility UTV like the Commander, but the commander is a higher horse machine. What are you looking to do? What is the type of riding you are going to do????

Thanks guys... I will mostly ride on trail. We have over 5 000 miles (if not more) of trail system and the max width for the trail is 60 inches. So the Maverick, the Wildcat and the RZR 900 are too big. I did a road test with the RSX and I think that I can live with but I just want to know your impression on long term. I saw that they made what we call "youth mistake" but I'm sure that John Deere I address these minor problems...
Thanks

I do not own the RSX yet, waiting on the PIP to be done. I do not own a commander either. I have rode both and I like the RSX way better. The commander sure does have some power, but the RSX handles and rides better. Deere's service and warranty is second to none. You can still work with the deere also. I am gonna tell you do deere (not cause this is a gator forum), but because I like the RSX better than the cowmander.

Been riding with a modified CanAm Commander and a RZR S. The RSX definitely holds its own in the woods!! I bought the machine for around the farm and to replace my 4-wheeler. With the RSX I can go about anyplace the old monster quad went. The Commander and RZR S are larger machines and have a tougher time on narrow woods trails. For my purposes, the RSX was the perfect machine. Fixing fence, hauling deer out of the woods, and the occasion trail ride.
As for gas mileage, I have been pleasantly surprised. I had been tooling around the farm at slow speeds under 30 mph last week and got about 26 miles per gallon. This is not the norm!! If you trail ride or frequently see how fast you can accelerate, this number will quickly drop to 13 to 17 miles per gallon.

Depends what kind of riding you are doing. The maverick is to wide for trail riding like we do.

My RZR was terrible on gas.
