Here's the second in our December series of historic photos celebrating our 175th year. This one is from 1963 when we offered a new line of lawn and garden tractors.

unfortunately thats not a 1963 John Deere 110. Its either a 65 or a 66. Jakerator, if your serious I have an 80 cart and a 110 like that I'm willing to part with, no mustang though as I'm a MOPAR fan.

yeah the front axle is cast, its got 5 bolts holding the rear tires on instead of 3, the tires are to wide, its an 8 horse instead of a 7, steel rear fenders instead of fiberglass and the draft plate and mower deck are different, to name a few.


unfortunately thats not a 1963 John Deere 110. Its either a 65 or a 66.

The Mustang did not role out until 1964, is that not correct?

ratrod, I would love to see some pics of your JDs for fun, I would think freight would kill me though.

Correct:Thmup: They were released April 17'th (which is why they're often called 1964½). More than 22000 were sold the first day, and after 18 month, Mustang number 1 million rolled off the production line (a record I think still stands). My favorite is the -67 Conv., though: www.1967mustang.dk

Not surprisingly, the nose of that garden tractor is styled after the 3020/4020 machines of the time. Would make it extra special as a collectors item today IMHO. Of course, to me the 3020/4020's are as classic as that Mustang. Not only were they a HUGE change in engineering direction for JD, but they were fabulously well designed and built machines.

I would have to agree with you Doc, I think they referred to them as the "New Generation" tractors. My Dad bought a 4020 I think in 1966 or 67. The dealer where I bought my gator got the first 4020 that they ever sold I believe in 1964 back on a trade. The fellow that owned it took pretty good care of it, the sheet metal was not dented or anything. The dealer went right through it, now it looks like it just came off the assembly line. They are keeping it as a part of their collection. They turned down a $50,000.00 offer on it.
