Venom winch

Well since I missed the deal on the superwinch terra 4500 how about a 5000lb Venom? Are these any good? Does anybody have one? It comes with a mount but after reading other threads it seems there are mounts that you don't want? I'll put a picture of the mount and winch up. Trying to get an idea if this is a good buy for a complete winch for around 240. I had a Viper before on a Honda Foreman and it worked fine. My Grizzly that I have now has a Warn and it gives me trouble sometimes. Not sure what to do I just know i'm not paying JD 700 bucks for one!

I had a viper elite back in 09 and it was a great winch. All metal gears and good design. As far as superwinch deals. Look on amazon.com they have great deals. That is where I got mine.

Amazon for the superwinch or venom? I was going to get the superwinch for 167 but it went up to 209 so screw them it can wait.

The components of the winch look very good and it is hard to believe it was only $167. I would even think the new price of $209 is a good deal after unboxing it last night.

The components of the winch look very good and it is hard to believe it was only $167. I would even think the new price of $209 is a good deal after unboxing it last night.

Mine came with a mounting plate, but it is not made for the gators. You could possibly adapt it, but I just ordered a different plate off of ebay.

before they made mounting plates for the big spool winches, I used the universal mounting plate that came with my terra 4500 Worked great.

How did it work Joe? Do you have pics of the install with the generic mount plate? Think they will go on sale again?

The mount that Cambridge metal makes and sells fits like a glove and not that hard to install you can order from eBay or direct from them they have a company called fuse power sports and the are on line at fuse power sports .com

I think that's the route i'd like to go. Terra 4500 and a cambridge mount.

As much as I like Warn winches, I had to back off them. I have a Warn 9500 HS on my truck but refuse to pay almost double the cost of other permanent magnet winches. I just ordered the Superwinch and KFI plate and probably saved myself $250. I figure no more than I will use it, it should last me a good long time.

They did once but it sure did not last long. I think 70+ people looked at the thread of the fact they were on sale so hopefully lots got to take advantage of the huge discount.Even at 209 I think it's a good deal when you look around and see what everyone wants for this unit.

But i'm tighter than 2 coats of paint and the price difference is nearly the cost of the mount.

Not sure. I ordered the KFI for the Gator. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00667AS3A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

I did go with 3500. I paid $180 for it. I figure it is good enough and if not I have a snatch block I can put on it. 3500 is double the weight of the Gator so I think it is sufficient.

I just installed the 4500 with the cambridge mount and it is really nice. Fits perfectly.

With the KFI mount where do you mount the 4-way roller fairlead? I think that Over time and wear and tear having it mounted to the mount and just not the winch body alone would be better on the winch body and less chance of breakage.

I don't have the KFI yet. I guess I will see when I get it. The manufacturer says, " Must have standard ATV Fairlead bolt pattern of 4.875” or UTV of 6.00" " so I assume there is a method to their madness. If not, I will get the Plasma cutter and welder out and make something.

That's a different looking mounting plate then the one on amazon.when you get it and install it let us know how it went

The picture shows the original KFI mount, which I purchased but only used the one piece, shown on Amazon. The issue I had with the second piece was that it covered the winch line spool to much for me to make sure the line was spooled correctly. I have pictures posted here somewhere. I'll try and find them.

I will keep that in mind CaptDan. If it is too small an opening I will open it up with the Plasma cutter. lol

Yeah, the KFI was less expensive and I had read where others had already used it so I went with it. Was going to make my own but for $50 it wasn't worth my time.

Ok, I got the winch yesterday. I still don't know how they can sell this thing for $180. There is a ton of stuff that comes with it. Won't get to mess with it till my heals and I have to go pick up me new JD tractor this weekend and play on the farm with it.:BG::BG::BG:

Ok I went to buy the terra 4500 and Cambridge mount from fuse powersports and they want to charge me 41.44 shipping and sales tax. That's buying both. Shouldn't the whole thing be free shipping? Since when did you pay tax on amazon?:mad:

Who's site were you on fuse power sports or amazon just looked and amazon is offering free shipping on the winch it's fuse power sports that wants 14.40 to ship the mount.
