So the guys at superwinchexperts.com recommended using a Kong Dog Toy as a line stopper.
I have read some reviews that the thinner plastic disc ones can collapse if you pull in line too much. Not expensive to try.
Thoughts?

I think it is a good idea. I have experience with these toys. I had a dog that could tear up a steel bearing. I got him a Kong Toy and it took him over a year to destroy it.
I don't go crazy retracting my winch so the usual urethane doughnut has been holding up well. I think it's a good idea except for two things. 1. It looks like it would make the Kong and winch hook stick out further than the shorter doughnut. 2. It looks like a sax toy, especially when sticking straight out the front (be careful to not tailgate other Gators or you could end up with little battery powered Gators running around).
