I thought this was an interesting read. I am no oil expert like at BITOG but from what I can tell it has more facts than sales pitch.

Fyi - John Deere does not make lubricants, they source on bid.
Some of the suppliers of JD lubes supplier are;
Esso Petroleum Canada
Phillips 66
Chevron Texaco Global Lubricants
Conoco Lubricants, a division of ConocoPhillips
Northern Products Co.
et al

Yep. I just had not see a document that provide such a basic primer on products and without too much marketing hype.
I found a recent MSDS of Turf Gard (when it became SN rated) and it is now made by officially made by Phillips 66 after Conoco created a new company to handle the retail end.
I seen it before. Local JD dealer tech showed me his copy. Said they gave it to all those who attended a training seminar this past year.
The big problem out there surfacing is cheap inferior lubes. API recently reports that as much as 20% of the bulk oils they tested don't even meet minumum specifications.
Check this out for more info.
