I recently bought a 1996 6x4 gas with a curtis cab and road lights. I'm wanting to put a snow plow on it and I'm not sure what my options are. I found a winch/plow mount combo made by Eagle plows that is available although I haven't seen a picture of it. I haven't called john deere yet to see what their setup costs but I have seen photos of one. I believe the deere setup is just an electric lift with manual angle. The eagle setup is a winch lift and manual angle. I think I would rather have the winch setup, but I'm concerned about how high the winch would sit on the mount compared to where it actually bolts to the frame. Anyways I'm in need of some advice from you guys who have used snow plows on your 6x4. What's best, are there other options out there? I thought about fabbing up my own 2" receiver front mount and buying on of those universal Meyer plows?

I purchased a set of tire chains for the rear and I'll keep some firewood in the back for weight. Now I just need a plow, any help?

I run a john deere straight blade on a 2001 diesel and i love it. I use the john deere linear actuator to lift it and have the manual angle. I prefer the linear actuator to lift it because you won't have to deal with cables snapping in the event that it does happen and also you don't have to deal with messing up the spooling of the cable on the drum. Just my thoughts:USA:

Eagle setup on mine, works very well. I put a 750 pounds in the bed and get plenty of traction. Use the winch in warmer months to get unstuck or pull logs/rocks loose.
